Where I stayed
The truck came to rescue us from Atlantic Villa as our illicit taxi luck had finally run out and we could get no one to take us into town at 6.30am! When we climbed aboard we were greeted with the interior bedecked with balloons, tinsel and fairy lights!
Everyone had decided to bring Christmas forward by a month.
We hit the road headed for another Namibian bush camp wearing Christmas hats and listening to festive tunes - lots of fun!
Kelly managed to turn herself into the Christmas Grinch when the green dye from her tinsel scarf stained her skin
As we approached the Tropic of Capricorn we stopped for a photo opportunity and tried to ignore the various car wrecks we had seen way down in the valleys between the winding, unbarriered, mountain roads we were taking. Thank God Peter is in a good mood today!
We stopped off for lunch at Solitaire, a little "town" that looked more like a petrol station and charged similar prices. We then drove across a moonscape to climb Dune 45 just before sunset - more knackering sand hikes but the view was spectacular, well worth it, and so was the descent!! Running with giant leaps down the side of very steep dunes felt like the closest we'd get to wading across the moon itself.
Back on terra firma we boarded the truck and went to our campsite at Sessrium.....we prepared a Christmas dinner of, you guessed it, pasta and tomato sauce, WITH garlic cheesy bread! It was given a festive touch with christmas crackers, sponge cake and custard and a well prepared mulled wine that Alun had conconcted with the spices he'd found in the recesses of the trucks floor boards...
A perfect day was topped off with a Queens speech by Sue adorned with a lurvely jewelled tiara (silver plastic with diamonte detailing) and David, aka Father Christmas, giving out his 'Secret Santa' presents;
Kelly - A book named 'Pig' and a giant box of cakes
Vik - Survival kit for South America incluing gin and tonic
Paula - 'Santa Legs' booze bottle carrier bag (everyone's favourite)
Bobby - Water pistol - why oh why?
Anand - a pair of 'Ghandals' (white Crocs) jazzed up by 'Secret Santa' - written on the back "Curry Stinks"
We had a few festive beverages, played with our toys for a bit and then went to bed, where we didn't sleep because a sandstorm kicked off and bouldered its way through the camp, nearly blowing us into South East Asia prematurely!!
Woke up the next morning with a face full of...........
