Woke up at 5.30am, refreshed having had a strangely decent sleep in the middle of nowhere - with no noises of the night (human or animal) to distract us - except for the odd tent fart or snuffle snore from our neighbours.  We packed away our tents and hit the road with Peter driving like a maniac until the Mozambique/Zimbabwean border and Vikki's face contorted to resemble Stressed Eric the whole way - she couldn't speak to Peter for at least an hour after disembarking the truck at the next stop.

On entering Zimbabwe we waved goodbye to Mozambique feeling a little sorry that we couldn't get to experience the country as it was just a transit route; Vikki also wondered what the people of Mozambique are called - answers on a postcard.

Most miserable border staff ever and the most aggressive passport stamping known to man (we knew we weren't going to be welcomed with open arms right?!) and the Brits get the pleasure of paying more for their Zimbabwean Visas than the rest of the world thanks to Mugabe. Still, we didn't cause a fuss - there are men with guns after all!

Quick brekkie at the border and then on towards Harare, the capital, with a lunch pit-stop in a random village along the way where there was nothing to buy except bulls testicles and fake Nike trainers...and stubbie beers for two dollars a go - but only for tourists. No local prices for us! Had a poo behind a tree and then drank rum until Harare.

At the shopping centre in Harare we stocked up on essential supplies. Jane bought gaffer tape and petroleum jelly. We wondered what she had in store for the evening. We bought 'Climax' chocolate peanuts - it really was going to be an interesting night.

Returning to the truck we found a massive djembe drum in the middle of the aisle so the boys played us some jungle music on the beach and we all started the party early.Headed to camp and 'got on it' (recurring theme anyone? - we honestly are immersing ourselves in the culture too....).
Headed to Bird Park, our campsite for the evening, and whilst Pete stoked the coals of our campfire we dressed up for a Halloween Eve party. Everybody made a great effort whilst cook group fried off beautiful fillet steaks and a delicious roasted butternut squash for the vegematarians.

After a relatively civilised dinner it all went crazy with the costumes and makeovers becoming ever more elaborate; the evolution fuelled by alcohol and the deeper exploration of the ladies make-up bags. Notable characters: Alun looking like a reject from Rocky Horror (the one too weird to cast) in a skirt with spikey hair and blood red lipstick; James relishing the opportunity to wear his peach chiffon dress again (Donna not so pleased this time...), Peter in a floral headscarf and cerise bra obviously exuding some kind of 'Sex Panther' hormone, Vikki's skeletal smile arguably one of the scariest transformations in the group and Paula wrapped from head to torso in toilet paper - the Mummy returns - was a very real opportunity for spontaneous human combustion near the campfire.

As a 'wicked themed' musical playlist rang out across the park, a drunken Twister tournament ensued with bodies entwined and contorted into strange knarly shapes and some members of the group rubbing themselves inappropriately against body parts of others. Alun and Anand exhibited particularly beautiful symbiosis, performing a seamless choreography of 'Evil' fused with 'Passion' limited only by those red, green, yellow and blue circles...Alun's skirt often allowed the audience to glimpse a little more of his undercarriage than was absolutely necessary.

Any onlookers across this usually tranquil setting would have wondered what had possessed the woods this spooky night as the revellers danced into the small hours, hooting and howling at the moon...
