Vikki couldn't get her lenses to clear and so stumbled out of the tent and into the night trying desperately to search for the direction of the toilet with some clumsiness….we're catching an early start for our 13 hour drive to Dar-Es-Salaam and subsequent ferry to Zanzibar the following day.
Packed up and on the truck for a prompt 5am departure from camp, we both went straight onto the 'beach' to top up on our sleepys until we stopped off for a road side snack after a couple of hours. Mistake. Paula opted for what can only be described as an African scotch egg - which was revolting. Vikki had some chips which were as hard as old toe-nail clippings...Undeterred we continued on our journey bound for Dar-Es-Salaam hindered only by a bust clutch spring - fingers crossed
Hannah asked to ride in the cab with Pete (love interest?) when Alun joined us in the truck - the driving became very erratic! Draw your own conclusions!Drove through dirty and dusty Dar to the tranquil heaven of Makadi Beach where we upgrade to a Banda (Beach hut). Finally a break from the arrid landscape for the warm waters of the Indian ocean!Had bangers and mash for te - lovely comfort food - followed by slushie cocktails at the beach bar. Relaxing heaven.Fell asleep to the sound of the ocean crashing on the beach until a neighbouring Indian family (kids, grandmas, dogs etc.) decided to have a feast at 2.30am. This was after the husbands attempted to get into our hut by 'mistake'! Joy.Finally got some sleep on foamy mattresses - Zanzibar tomorrow!
