Back. In one piece. Thank god. That was the hardest, longest, bitchiest back breaker ever. I can't feel my limbs. The last two hours have just been hellish - cold, dark, dangerous and full of tentative aggression, but after slogging it out for almost seven hours through the mountains and using every bit of energy (and concentration) to get through it we just didn't care in the end. At that stage we just wanted to get indoors. Charlie more than me it seemed. Some of the nutter manoeuvres he was pulling off had me cringing and holding my breath. But I'm not knocking it. I understand. We had to get a wriggle on and get out of the wilderness. I was the one without insurance.
The last third of the Snowy Mountains Highway through Bairnsdale and all the way here on 'Highway 1' we nailed it, 160 all the way, my knuckles white and vision fully tunnelled on Charlie's rear light. Any sudden surprises and we'd have been wombat food. I guess our time's not up yet..
Where I stayed
Charlie's Mom's place (to look after 'The Pimp')
