Of all the places I could have ended up today. Tumut. Say it. Cos' I couldn't. Had to ask someone. Turns out it wasn't Too-mut or Tummut, nor was it T'mut or even T'moot, but 'Chew-mut'.
Tumut. Not a bad little place all in all, but still, as familiar and predictable as all the other road-trip towns I've come across thus far. By 8pm you need to have your accommodation sorted cos' it's about then that doors start closing. My turning up and knocking on doors just before 8pm wasn't the best of moves, especially as it was cold out and pissing down. Still, I was lucky to find a decent bed. Just as lucky as I was to even make it to Tumut by this time. I had to ride like an absolute nutter to get here, and to think I'd got every intention of making it to Canberra by nightfall. Canberra? Dick head. Aussie maps and distances aren't to be taken lightly, trust me, especially when you're in the habit of taking the back roads.
So... just checked in to a classic Aussie pub-style accommodation with off road parking and got myself a cheap last-minute feed from the local supermarket deli. Everywhere else is closed, and I'm actually starting to get used to it. It's slowly becoming the norm. And that's where I'll leave it for now I think. I've gotta tuck into this tub of cold pasta. I don't even have a fork, and I'm sure I threw the chopsticks out after Tassie. Cold ravioli off a pen-knife. Classy..
