After such a mare of a drive yesterday, staying at a central point like Okiwi Bay seemed the logical thing to do. But it wasn't necessarily the best move. The motor camp at Okiwi Bay is, without doubt, the least value for money motor camp I've encountered in New Zealand so far. It's also the most expensive. In New Zealand. So far.

We were up and away this morning without much hesitation, itching to get up to French Pass, a distant tip of headland right out amongst the labyrinth of waterways.

Another foot injury has magically appeared in my life which I can't bear to go into, but has added a small slither of difficulty to all those aspects of the trip that involve any kind of walking or driving, of which much of it is at the moment. It took the best part of two hours (in third gear) to weave the van down to French Pass, and yet every little bit of it - every last grimace - was worth it. Honestly, the views, the views, the views. I'm sure the pics will give a vague idea again.

We never made it over to D'Urville Island. I particular wanted to make it over to D'Urville Island, having heard some seriously glowing reports along the lines of 'the best so far' - both from Irishmen, which alone sparked a flicker of curiosity in me. But with the foot thing and the 'timing'... certain days of the week here are significantly more costly to sample D'Urville Island than others. Today was a stupidly costly day, with not much access around the island. If you time it right and get here on a Tuesday and are early enough, you can join the postal delivery boat for a reasonable fee and get to drive over much of the island revelling in its wonders.

We 'missed the boat' so to speak. Though it's a mighty good job we took the drive. The views from up top of that ridge were something else, and dare I say it: probably the best so far..

Absolutley stunning pictures Scott. So beautiful. This makes my 'want' to go more into a 'need!
I'm a chronic ankle-sprainer myself, so I have an idea on how you feel. Watch those tootsies!

Proper Soes
Scott, I know it's your dream to become a ladyboy, but whilst you still have your tackle, you must learn to walk/trek in proper shoes. I know you think that open toed high heels with your painted toenails showing is the only way to go, but I hate having to carry girls like you out of anywhere.

Repeat after me. I must wear proper shoes. I must wear proper shoes!
