'Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits..'
I really do love this New Year thing: the first day of the first month of a brand new year - a glossy new book containing three hundred and sixty five crisp white pages, all blank, and a whole range of endless possibilities with which to fill it. The rest is up to us. What a gift.
So before I carry on I just wanted to wish you all another blinder of a year. Here's to 2007. Cheers!
While we were bouncing round Portugal last month we were told by some of the locals how amazing it is down at Albufeira over New Year's. Apparently, all the locals get together for a massive beach party and play music, get muntered and let of fireworks n stuff. Of course, the idea was sold on the spot and a plan formulated for our return. We went, we experienced, and we've just got back.
  
Spending New Year's in Portugal made a great change and offered something radically different. The weather was the best of a British summer, the sea was warm, the clouds were absent and the magic of the atmosphere was alive and kicking proper. The rumours were true: it is amazing down at Albufeira over New Year's. People from all over, many from inland Portugal, flock down to the coast each year to celebrate the new one with a bang - a massive beach party, live music, food, drinks, fireworks, smiles and good times. To be a part of this highly memorable experience was a pleasure in itself. The days were beachy and the nights were indulgent.
We caught up with some of the same great people we met a few weeks ago, as well as meeting and watching many others. The big night saw a double live performance of some rapper dude and the breathtaking legend that is Mel C, though she did sound a little shaky.
All in all we had a fantastic time, and we made the moment count where it counted. A family moment. After all, I don't know when I'll be seeing them again.
