The village of Mijas is set inland up in the mountains overlooking the Benalmádena costa, Fuengirola and some of the other seaside towns that run along the south coast.
The view from up top is awesome, like nothing I've seen in Spain to date. Mijas itself has a very warm close-knit community feel that immediately sparked a significant interest with the Woz viejos.
It appears that local buses bring in regular batches of tourists from the coast as an 'optional day-trip', swifting them back down to sea level after an enlightening wander and a quality feed. We watched a few come and go as we sat at our Christmas table in the sun supping a few cold ones while the chef rustled up our Spanish Christmas dinner.
To think that a year ago to this day I was stuffing tortillas with spicy chicken out the side of a campervan surrounded by mountains in the middle of nowhere next to a crystal blue lake. And next year? Who knows?
To every one of you, Salud!
