We've spent the last couple of days days kicking back, catching up and coming to terms with things. I've met more retired folk in three days than I've had hot dinners. I only have to step outside or turn a corner and I'm whisked away to meet someone I haven't met before, someone I 'must meet'.

I've been living and travelling around New Zealand you know. Did you know? I've heard the big surprise story recounted dozens and dozens of times already. There's almost two months left. But it's all good.

It was nice to hit the road and come away for a couple of days. We're here in Marbella, the posh area, staying with 'Aunty Iris' and 'Colin', old friends of the family from way back. They're a good craic, and spend six months of the year here in Spain and the rest of the time mixing it up between Wales and the West Midlands, our old stomping ground.

We're staying in a luxurious millionaire's apartment. It's one of the many proud posessions of Iris' sister, who kindly handed it over for a bout of house-sitting. Iris and Col have been here for the last week soaking up the good life and invited us over to sample it with them. It's berry berry nice. I have my own room with an en-suite and a sparkling marbled floor. It's grand and makes you feel all important.

We hit the town tonight and walked the streets sampling tapas and beers and taking in the sights and sounds of Marbella. It was fantastic to hear the crashing tide again. The Moroccan touts were everywhere trying to sell umbrellas for 4 euros. As it happens the rain was heaving down and they scored a nice sale off us mugs. The tapas went down a treat and I think I've got the old man addicted to 'patatas bravas'. A long downward spiral lies ahead..
