------------------------------------ VIDEOS NOW UPLOADED! SEE ABOVE! ----------------------------------

'In 2004 I did something different. Without a shred of emotion I shrugged off the house, the job, the car and the bike. I shrugged off everything. Shortly after I bought a cheap one way ticket and flew over the equator with a pounding heart and a burning desire to live a different life, one of randomness. The rest is right here, in these pages.

Along the way I've experienced things I couldn't possibly have prepared myself for, things I didn't even know existed. And along the way of course, I've met some incredible people - simple everyday randoms like me following their own dreams, and the occasional diamonds that have changed the course of my path forever.

I've also met someone else. This is 'his'-tory.

---------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE! ------------------------------------------------------------

Where am I now? - Kep, Cambodia

Firstly, here's a big cheery beery Happy New Yeary toast to you all from southern Cambodia!

Where has the time gone??

It's been a looooong while since I posted the last update, I know, but it's all been for good reason, and now that I've re-established myself in this new, exciting, challenging and unpredictable location with endless opportunities, I'll be slowly filling in the blanks that have seen me through the back end of 2009, from Vietnam and Burma to Thailand and through Cambodia. As and when I get the chance of course. There is after all, a lot to do here.

Right now I have very little internet access (just a weak signal through my mobile) so I can't send anything sizeable, just a few frequent one-liners. On the rare occasion that I do venture into civilisation I'll try and post more (including pics) but for now, all I can say is that things are... unique.

So where am I? I'm in the Krong Kep province of southern Cambodia, living in the jungle, near the coast, without electricity or gas and blissfully free from commercial consumerism. I'm living on a constant supply of fresh organic food among the gibbons, the crickets, the cobras, the swaying palms, the millions of birds and billions of stars. This is simplicity at its finest and the perfect package of peace and quiet. And once again I'm surrounded by wholesome people. The Khmers really are a delightful bunch, and to be at the heart of things with an endless amount of opportunity just within reach is a wonderful privilege.

So for now I'll leave things there and get back to unfolding the story. Just trust me when I say that going to sleep every night under a blanket of brilliant stars while the bats clown around in the moonlight is just magnificent. And waking up to the call of gibbons at sunrise is an experience I simply cannot put into words right now. So yeah, big big grins for 2010.. :)

(1st January 2010)

- Sunrise over 'The Remarkables', Queenstown, New Zealand.. (5:30am)

Where have I been up to now? - Just crossed the Australian continent by motorbike and clocked up almost 30,000 back-breaking kilometres through 87 towns and cities. This was after returning to New Zealand to finish the wonders of the north island, also by bike. Before returning to New Zealand I took a lengthy jaunt around Spain, Portugal and a highly spontaneous roadtrip across California and Nevada with some randoms..

For a bit of background info and to find out how all this crazy madness started, click here!

Or you might want to start from the very beginning, in Staffordshire, England.

I've got a long way to go yet, and it would be great to hear from you along the way. Please feel free to post your comments, drop me a line or sign the guestbook.

..until then crack a coldie and grow a grin!

Mate you rock!!
I fly to explore SEA in August and thought I was being adventurous by dropping everything and taking off for a month.

Then I discover your blog and your life and you've blown my socks off! You rock mate. You really do.

I don't know many people that have the courage to do what you're doing with your life. Most people save all their life and then, when they're too bloody old to enjoy it, take a trip to see the world. Instead you're living it all now.

I take my hat off to you!!

I have traveled to a little over 15 counties and people here think that I'm so well traveled but I know I'm not! Wish I could get away and do what you're doing. Great Pictures! My camera is only 5 megapix but I need to upgrade. Keep doing what youre doing because hey we only live once in this lifetime.

Envy, admiration, thumbs-up... You are living my dream which I never even tried to turn into reality. Not brave enough I guess. Instead I will watch your steps and keep dreaming.

It's been a pleasure meeting you Mr. Woz, albeit relatively short. We'll have to make up for that shortly, and share a Chang, a Saigon 222, a Biere Laos, shiiii....whatever we can scrape up.

The big bald Canadian,

I was 19 last year and travelled and volunteered in South America for 5 months, I seriously cannot wait until I finish university and do what you're doing! So incredibly jealous of your adventure but I can't wait to be doing the same. Inspirational

Despite only reading your first entry, I feel completely supported by a stranger who's doing exactly what I'm set out to do in 10 short months. I just spent a month in Mexico, traveling up/down the Pacific coast. I met some locals and saw how they live - jungles, concrete walls, holes for doors and windows, and all in an open concept!! climbing up winding stairs past massive tropical trees only to reach a tree house is exactly how i want to be living. I live in vancouver, bc right now, where life seems to be perfect. clean, rules, structures, the works - my desire: make my life simple and only own things that I need. My own blogs arent as entertaining as yours, although when I read them, they are. Bon voyage!!
