If you have ever been to the dryier parts of Australia and had to suffer from the flies that just seem to hang about you and bother you all day long, then the Tuk Tuks in Bangkok fall into the same category. They are an open ended carriage with motorised front, and they will take you anywhere. Most dont even have licences to drive, which can be seen by the way they weave in and out of the traffic. No seat belts, these are a novel way to drive but always agree to a cost first and do your best to avoid visiting one of their many sponsors. These sponsors are usually Gem shops or Tailor shops during the day and strip bars in the night. All will rip you off and make you feel intimidated into buying something or paying money to someone.
But if you can find a good driver and negotiate with him to give him a tip so he doesnt visit his sponsors, then it can be a rather enjoyble way to see the sights of Bangkok. Make sure you take a bottle of water with you and one for the driver. If you get stuck behind a bus you may need a good rinse of water.
Strangely enough the water didn't make any of us sick, so no problem keeping to the bottled water or even the tap water in the hotel. Wouldn't go any further than that.
