Well have arrived in Bangkok. its still early in the morning and dark but very warm. Must admit that I was a bit worried about Customs as Dave had bought a packet of Panadeine Forte with him in case my tooth started to ache but í think at that time in the morning there staff was limited as there was ony about 3 ppl working and everybody was just walking straight through.
The whole place smelt of sweet flowers, something I noticed later as well in the city sidelanes. Once we got through the main checkpoints we had just sat down to sort out what next to do when we came accross the imfamous Thai hospitality. This taxi driver started pestering us, wanting to take us to the city for about 1500 baht, about 3 times the normal rate. He didnt want to take NO for an answer and kept hovering about us. A trip to the toilet, a phonecall home, some money exchange and still he was there. We learnt quickly that it is no god trying to be a nice person here as everyone will just take advantage of it Departure Lounge

. In the end, while he went to grab us some brochures, we made a duck out the other door and grabbed one of the normal taxis.

PS: the toilets there are spotless, which was nice, the the lady cleaner standing next to the urinals to clean up any 'spillage' was just a little discomforting. Something I found to be very normal with toilets in large shopping centres, hotels etc.

The whole airport gives you the feeling of being inside a large metallic chamber, its very sparse, metallic, clean and lacks colours.

The cabbie reminded us a lot of Fitzy, especially his driving. The highways might have 3 lanes in them but that doesnt stop the cars driving 4 a breast. Pity help you if you broke down, nowhere to park it safely. My seatbelt didn't work and there was air blowing through the back door, obviously it doesn't close properly or the door rubber had gone. An octy strap was also used to hold down the boot. Don't get me wrong, i think our luck just gave us the shabbiest cab in Bangkok. About 40 minutes later, and 500 baht (17.00aud) poorer, we arrived at the Indra Hotel, located in the middle of the shopping area. As we stepped out of the taxi the heat nearly knocked us over. About 34 degrees C - thankfully the hotel had air conditioning.
