angkok, the capital of Thailand is the 22nd largest city in the worl with a registered population of 8,160,522 citizens as of July 2007. This amount is more like 15 million due to the influx of unregistered migrants coming from the north of Thailand and other South East Asia countries.

The full name given to Bangkok is the largest name in the world for any city. It is:

Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit

In Thai is is written as:

กรุงเทพมหานคร อมรรัตนโกสินทร์ มหินทรายุธยามหาดิลกภพ นพรัตน์ราชธานี บุรีรมย์อุดมราชนิเวศน์มหาสถาน อมรพิมานอวตารสถิต สักกะทัตติยะวิษณุกรรมประสิทธิ์

And it is translated as:

"The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukam".

I dare anyone to say that to the next taxi driver at Bangkok airport who asks where they want to go.
