Our first full day in Panama brought a hot and humid reality smack.  It was in the 90's before noon and the humidity was beyond overwhelming.  With that said, Melanie went to our neighborhood market, Super Gourmet, to get us breakfast.  What could be better than to start the day with an egg and english muffin sandwich!?  The owner, Blayne, an ex-pat from Louisiana/Alabama offered us a bounty of information on Bocas (our next location) and where to eat, have fun, and contacts with more information.  His dog, Vegas, gave both of us a much needed dog fix.

We walked around the old town of Casco Viejo, but unfortunately as today is the Inauguration Day for the new President, all the museums and churches are closed.  We ran into an incredibly friendly "Policia Tourista" who explained some of the area's history and also helped us find an incredibly well hidden ATM.  His job is to solely help out tourists in the Casco.  We both thought after about a half hour of chatting that he was simply incredibly bored and what happy to have something to do, by showing us around.  And of course, he had to throw in that he also ran a "taxi service" that could take us anywhere in the city.  Go figure.

After about two hours of walking, we both decided that it was time to get out of the heat.  We went back to our Super Gourmet for more information from Blayne, and the afternoon rains hit with a torrential, but brief, rainstorm.  The fresh rain brought out some of the "not so friendly" smells of the area!

We'll probably head out this late afternoon for some food at a place called Ego y Nariso which is a tapas type restaurant.

Until the next update, there are some new pics to look through.
