Banff part 2!
Monday morning we got up very very early and went dog sledding. We were taken by bus to Canmore and from there on to the Spray Lakes. We spent about an hour on the sled and each had a turn to drive and a turn to sit in the sled. We had 7 huskies of different kinds driving our sled. We went on a trail through pine woodlands and then out onto a frozen lake. It was amazing and a completely unique experience. Our lead dog is apparently the smartest dog our guide has ever met and their number one lead dog but he wasn't working for us, he kept pulling us off the track which was quite funny. Highly recommend anyone to try it, it was great fun.
That afternoon we checked out some car rental companies and finally got lucky! We are now with car until Vancouver. And we got a discount, paying a third of what we would have had to pay originally and we've got a big cool car! So Tuesday we took a drive to Johnston Canyon and had a perilous walk through the canyon along a frozen and very slippy boardwalk and then on through woods which were no better. It was incredibly scenic and we enjoyed it but it was pretty terrifying in parts. The lower falls were beautiful, turquoise water and we walked through a little tunnel to see them. The upper falls were quite a bit further along but were even more impressive and worth the journey. Mhairi was not so keen on the high platforms in parts so is rethinking the bungee jump idea. It was a great walk but it would have been easier with cleats. Very very beautiful area.
Wednesday was our last morning in Banff and we went for a walk along a marsh boardwalk and saw some geese. Really enjoyed Banff, it's so scenic and just a perfect little town. Next stop is Lake Louise! More thumbnails ...
