We're off again! After a few great weeks at home we caught a redeye from LAX to London on June 13. We got into London on June 14 and found our way with a hired car to Ed Johnson's home - Amy's friend from Yahoo! Ed and Gary have great flat where they had a guest room for us (woohoo) in the lovely area of London around Tooting Bec. PARTY PARTY HANG OVER SIGHTSEEING
Our first night we were feeling good and went out with Ed to a bar where they were having a going away do (as they say) for some fellow Yahoo!'s. Nothing beats a few free beers on Yahoo! After the pub Ed and Gary took us to a fantastic dinner at a bustling restaurant in London. We got home around 12:30am and paid the price the next day when we woke up with a bit of jet lag plus a hangover. But it was a great night and very 'London'.
The next day we woke up around 2pm - just in time to shower and find our way on the London underground to Ed's office where we joined him and the rest of the Yahoo! Office at a pub to watch the World Cup England vs. Trinidad and Tobego match. The English take their football games very seriously and all eyes were one the TV the entire 90 minutes. After the game, we all headed over to a wine bar where we chatted with folks from all over Europe while sipping wine outside in the beautiful evening air. We again stayed out until 1am making us wonder how they go to work in this city after having so fun every night!
The third day Scott "rested" while I went out to dinner with my old friend Teresa Pereira and a group of her friends around the city. We met up and went to dinner in Notting Hill - the most quaint area in London! Just like in the movie. Our final day in London we actually did some sightseeing! We were total tourists and got on one of the Red Sightseeing buses that went around the entire city. It was a beautiful sunny day and we sat up on the top deck getting views of all the major sites including the Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Tower of London. The only thing we couldn't see was Buckingham Palace as it was the Queens Birthday. Instead we got a perfect view of the aerial parade for the Queen which must have had over 50 planes in formations. An amazing day and an amazing city! That night we watched the USA team get absolutely robbed in their World Cup game against Italy, oh well no US in the World Cup Quarters this time.
