The Bay of Islands
After our four hour drive (thank God that I kept to the Left) up from Auckland we arrived in the beautiful area of the Bay of Islands in the North Island. We quickly found our hostel (for all of Amy's friends and family she actually agreed to stay in a hostel...this budget thing might just work!) on one of the four streets in the city and checked in and quickly took our two hour nap to beat the jet lag.

We had a good dinner and found the cheapest beer in town at the Swordfish Club which is like our Elks Lodge. Thus basically made up of old dudes drinking cheap liquor and talking about days gone by (sorry S. Straubel). But it had $3NZD Mac's Gold on Tap and THE best views in the city.

The next day we were up for the Dolphin Adventure Cruise at 8:00. We were the first ones there and got front row seats. Within 45 minutes we caught up with two large pods of Dolphins and got some amazing photos of them close up and a free show of them jumping, playing, and basically have a great time. Unfortunately we did not get to swim as its illegal to swim with them if they have a baby in the pod which there was at least two of. So we just got to see them from the boat, but it was still pretty amazing. In addition, we saw penguins, jellyfish, a shark, and got to go through the properly named "Hole in the Rock" Overall it was an four hour tour that left us as satisfied if we were marooned with Ginger.

Later that day we went for a four hour hike to the Haruru Falls through some beautiful forest and coastal areas. The falls were no bigger than some of the waterfalls you see in Vegas at the pools but it was good to stretch the legs and get some fresh air. We did decide to break in our new sandles which we paid the price for, but better now than later.

That evening we got a good dinner and meet some people (one English girl and a couple from the Netherlands) from the boat trip for drinks at the swordfish. In typical fashion we closed the place down and stumbled back to our hostel after a very long day.
