Our actually day started on Wednesday January 11, 2006 back in Los Angeles as we rushed to get everything done before we took off. The day was filled with packing, shopping, getting pictures taken, giving instructions to the Coveys on what still needed to be done (thank you so much Mom and Dad), and more packing.
Of course we were working right up until Jason came to take us to the airport at 4:00. Once at the airport we stood in the first of many lines of our trip but made it through, but unfortunately without exit row seats. We got our last McDonalds meal and were off on our 12 1/2 hour plane ride. After crossing the international date line we arrived in Auckland to start our journey. It wasn't long before we hit our first road bump getting our rental car. After unpacking all our stuff, pulling at the maps, and buckling up I noticed that the car was a stick, which wasn't going to work as I was already on the wrong side of the car and would have to concentrate on "keeping left."
After a quick change over we started off for our 4 hour drive (because we truly hadn't spent enough time on our asses the past day) to the Bay of Islands. More thumbnails ...
