Dad and I got up early to participate in the famous Sydney Bridge Hike.  We were scheduled to begin at 8:30 but of course due to our exceptional efficiency got there at 7:55 thus allowing us to join an 8:05 group.  Let me begin by saying the trip was both easier then we thought it was going to be and much more fun and interesting.

The woman who prepped us by getting our jump suits, wind pants, harness, and cool attachment to the safety wire thingy was professional and quick.  We were then handed over to our guide who quickly learned everyone's name and built a rapour with her quick wit and perky personality.  I want to let everyone know none of the photographs taken were done by us.  For obvious reasons they don't allow tourists to bring heavy metal objects several hundred feet over a busy highway.

Our group consisted of  9 tourists and the guide.  One was from the great northern state of Canada, to separate groups of 3 each were from the same town somewhere in Australia and Dad and I.  It was a fun and friendly group that only made the trip that much more enjoyable.  The only complaint I have about the trip is my outfit was somewhat less then flattering, but what can you do?

The trip begins with a stroll under the bridge for about 100 yards.  Then it is up a series of ladders to the bridge outer supports and up onto the top of the arches.   This is the view from about half way up the arches.  The only strenuous part really is the ladders.  The arch its self is a fairly gentle slope and was not overly demanding.  The view of the Sydney Opera house which was designed to compliment the bridge is of course awesome.
At the top of the bridge and at various points just prior and just after are a series of short, educational, commentary about the history of the bridge and various sites and buildings throughout Sydney that could be seen from this lofty vantage.

After that it is back down the other half of the same side of the bridge, identical to the first just backwards.  At the end you are left with a feeling of accomplishment which makes it difficult not to buy the pictures they took to remember a terrific experience.

*Note the last 3 pictures in the series are complimentary with the package and were not taken during our trip.  Also all of the other pictures were taken by the tour guide.

After the hike we felt so good we walked the ten blocks back to out hotel room.  Deke having heard about our half day of hiking thought that the best thing for us would be to spend the next 4 hours or so in the afternoon hiking throughout the Sydney Zoo [he had never been].  He took about 100 pictures with Dad's camera but if you want to see pictures of wild animals visit National Geographic's Website.

What beautiful photos, and what an extraordinary opportunity. Chris was out to the house for dinner last night and showed us your travel blog. I'll be checking back in with you often.

You'll have to enter the shot looking down the bridge with all the lights in a contest - it's a real winner. It's remarkable. Better than any postcard! Can't wait to hear all about your adventures when ... show all
