Before we left AZ we took a quick tour of Sedona. David who had control of the camera could find nothing of beauty or interest to photograph except a jet on the USS Sedona.
We left Arizona on the 29th of April and had an uneventful flight to LA. After a quick wait we boarded a Quantas 747 and due to the forethought of dad's travel agent had an empty seat between us for the entire 15 hour flight. What a luxury. He arranged the same for the return. I hope we are as lucky. flight had individual monitors for each seat with dozens of movies, cd's, tv shows, and games to keep one entertained. I opted for the nap, movie, bathroom, nap, nap, movie, bathroom, nap, movie routine to keep me occupied during the long flight. The flight was not nearly as terrible as I thought it would be.
[Edit] Anyone interested in making a quick and lets say unscrutinized entry into a country may want to take David along. That's all I'm going to say. We contacted my brother Deke, who has been living in Aussie land for 7 years now, after we checked into our hotel. He insisted that the best way to beat the jet lag was no sleep and lots of exercise. He drove us to Bondi where he used to live and took us on a hike of the Bondi to Bronte exercises trail along the coast of Sydney. It is a lovely section of the city with beautiful views
along several beaches. Deke always the generous host was more than happy to demonstrate his considerable knowledge of the Bondi neighborhood where he has spent so much time.
Dad was particularly interested in the surfers and body boarders who were testing their skills in the particularly tricky rip tides. We saw a couple people being helped out of the particularly strong currents.
After the hike we went to an Italian restaurant overlooking the Ocean. We were met by a mate of Deke's by the name of Darra. He is from Ireland originally and as with Deke has fallen in love with Australia making it his home. That night we went out to dinner at a traditional English style pub and had a great time and met another friend of Deke's by the name of Bill. Billy is from the states as well and has been working in Australia for a number of years. After dinner we went straight back to the hotel to get some sleep as we are to hike the Sydney Bridge at 8:30am.
