Where I stayed
Benton Best Holiday RV Park
This is the day we have been waiting for. All these years of planning, and it starts now. 14,000 miles of driving. Today will be one of the longest of the trip at around 500 miles. This is not bad in a car, but in an RV, with a stick shift, it can suck the energy out of you. We left Lawrenceville around 6:30 am. The trip was long but event free. Very little traffic and open road. The bad news, which will be coming up every day, is the price of diesel. Our average today is $4.70 a gallon. Who knows what it will be like by the end of the trip. But if that is the worst news for this trip, I will take it. The stop off today in just outside the Southern Illinois town of Benton near Rend Lake. We discovered a small bike trail in the local state park which was nice after driving all day. Now we are back at the campground which has a karaoke concert going on right now - oh joy!!! To make things a little exciting today, a strong storm system with a tornado just passed to the SW of us with more of that weather expected for our entire drive tomorrow.
