Flight over the Grand Canyon

After the plane ride we went to the South Kaibab Trail
. We had to walk a mile along the rim before we got to the trailhead. We made it the .9 miles to Ooh Aah Point in 18 minutes. I think that we hike down much faster than some people do! Then we made it the next .6 miles within 40 minutes including breaks. Cedar Ridge is where I stopped but Miles went another 1.5 miles to Skeleton Key. Knowing what we know now, Miles could have made it to the river and back in one day because the 6 miles only took him a total of 2 hours 40 minutes. When he did that I went to the General Store and Canyon Cafe. Then I tried to get my National Park Stamp at Verkamp's but there were no parking spots. I went to the visitor center, looked at the bookstore, then Miles was there. We went to Mather Point then went to the geology museum. I got my stamp there then it was back to Canyon Cafe, this time for Miles to eat. Then we tried to park again, but there were no spots so I ran in to Verkamps while Miles sat in the car. After that we parked far away and walked to Bright Angel Lodge. From there we went to Lookout Studio and Kolb Studio. From there we took the Herman Shuttle to Hopi Point. Then we walked to Powell from Hopi. We caught the shuttle back to the village. On our way out of the park we saw about 10 mule deer off all sizes. We left around 4:30 to head to Phoenix. It was a longer drive than the internet said. We stopped in Bellmont at the Harley shop just before they closed. Our next stop was Denny's in Flagstaff. I ordered Banana Foster, but since the workers were young and had other things on their mind they screwed up the order. It worked out though because the manager did not make me pay. We continued towards Phoenix because we still had 140 miles to go. We played the alphabet game to try to keep ourselves awake. We stopped once at a scenic overlook. It was so dark that it made an amazing place to look at the stars. We could see the Milky Way really well. We made it to the hotel at 9:00 pm which would be 12:00 Indiana time. You want to think that your body would adjust to the time difference right away, but it doesn't really. We watched a little tv, then showered because of the early morning flight.
We got up around 6:45 and ate breakfast first. It was a very nice continental breakfast with lots of choices. Then we showered, wrote postcards, then made our way to Grand Canyon Airlines. We took the 40-50 minute discovery trip around the Canyon. At first I wasn't going to do it because it was $120 per person, but I am glad I did. We boarded a 9 person plane and took off. The runway went away from the canyon at first, but then we turned and went south. Then we flew right over the top of the canyon. It was pretty cool to be able to look down right into the Colorado River. Then we flew over the North Rim for quite a long time. We then went across the canyon again. Miles favorite part was seeing the sheer dropoffs and cracks. I lived the river. You were able to get a better feel for how deep the canyon is. It was a pretty awesome experience and I am really glad that I could see this with Miles.
