We took a picture with Micheline outside her house, then we were off by 8:15. The pattern we would end up traveling on this day was very much like a W. First challenge was getting out of NYC which we managed to do more easily than I thought. Apparently enough people take trains that the car traffic was only stop and go for a short time. Our first stop was the capital of Connecticut, Hartford. We found a parking meter very close to the capital building and got ourselves 30 minutes of parking. We rode our bikes around that park, and then to the state building. We took turns standing with the bikes and exploring the interior of the building. Next it was off to Mystic, Connecticut. This is where the movie called Mystic Pizza with Julia Roberts was filmed. We ate at that pizza place, checked out the seaport and were on our way to the capital of Rhode Island, Providence. We found metered parking on "Capitol Hill" and checked out the state building. Very nice sized for such a tiny state. Next it was off to the mansions of Newport. It took longer than expected to get to Newport. We parked at the visitor center and off we went on our bikes. The grounds of the mansions closed at 5:00 so most of the mansions we had to look at through the big fancy closed gates. The Breakers which was the Vanderbilt home was huge, and the water along the cliff walk was very nice. After about a 5 mile bike ride, we decided we could make it all the way to the Shame-Crowell Campground in Massachusetts which was our stop for the next two nights anyway. Camp went up quick, then to bed.
