Lauren and I had a fairily quiet weekend. We headed to a few of our local joints on Friday and hit up a huge mall on Sunday, but the highlight of the weekend was Saturday when we went into total tourist mode and decided to visit the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. The Grand Palace was the original palace of King Rama I and the adjoining Wat Phra Kaew was built in the 1700s to house the most sacred Buddhist object in all of Thailand: The Emerald Buddha.

We took a boat taxi again to a pier that was right in front of the palace, and after fighting through 123,000 or so tourists we were able to enter the palace and Wat complex and really take in our surroundings. Its quite a breathtaking place, and the palace itself has been modified or added on to by every single King since the 1700s. So it is quite a unique complex. Took a bunch of pictures, said whats up to the Emerald Buddha, and now we can say that we have been there.

The rest of the weekend was just taking life very easy and just lesuirely making our way around town. Please check back to the blog soon for Lauren's blog as she was the first of us to actually leave Thailand and travel to another country in South East Asia. But she kind of had to........stay tuned.
