Since the last blog, Lauren and I have actually been taking part in the main reason that we moved to Thailand. No not partying, but working! As I mentioned in the last blog, Lauren has begun work at Fun Language this past Monday, and I started my orientation at Ruamrudee International School this past Thursday. Lauren worked in the Fun Language office a few days this week, but also was in a couple of Kindergarten age classrooms to observe. She had a lot of fun but said that she went deaf. She starts this week observing at the schools that she will eventually teach in. She is going to be in 2 different schools during the week. She will be in classrooms of students from ages 3-12. She is really excited, The orientation at my school was just for new teachers. It had the usually procedural run-around but we also had to take part in a 2 day Thai cultural workshop. This is required by the Thai government and we learned everything from Thai words, to Thai history. The highlight of the course was this past Saturday when all of us new teachers had to attended a theater presentation of the history of Thailand. And we were allowed to bring our spouses so Lauren was really happy. The best part of this whole thing is that since it was required by the Thai government, they paid for the whole thing! It was pretty sweet.

The place is called Siam Niramit and the theaters claim to fame is that it has the Guiness Book of World Records certified highest theater stage in the world. Whatever. Now everybody who lives in Myrtle Beach already has seen places similar to this if you have been to Dixie Stampede or Medieval Times. The only difference is that the dinning area is seperate from the show area. The show area is a huge theater auditorium. And although this is a tourist place, it isnt some korney civil war reenactment type show beacuse the culture and practices displayed at this place, STILL are being used in the Thai countryside. Pretty sweet. Anyways when we got off the bus, we were greeted by some beautiful Thai Puyee (Women) who gave us flowers. We then were paraded through the gift shop area until we came to a big courtyard. The courtyard area was fairly empty besides a few stone elephants, so we headed up stairs to the buffet area. It was massive and the food was delicious. They had everything from chicken tenders to Tom Yum to sushi. It was great. When we were done eating, the courtyard was packed with all kinds of Thai culture stuff. They had two live elephants, a huge group of Thai dancers, a bunch of guys playing native Thai instruments, and they had a mock Thai village. Oh, side story- I befriended a guy who I work with here at Rumrudee. He was born and raised in Lithuania, taught in Conneticut for a while then moved to Russia and taught for a while, got married and then came to Bangkok last week. And Lauren got along really well with his wife, and we hung out all night so those are the other people in the pictures. Ok, back to the story, us four headed to the faux Thai village and went on a Klong (canoe type boat) and went through the fake river in the fake village. It really reminded me of a Florida swamp. There was no Gators though. Sad. But it was a cool ride. We walked through the rest of the village and then headed to the show. The show was incredible!!! So much choreographed dancing, explosions, special effects, etc. It was pretty sweet. Would love dd to take you all there when you visit!

When the show was over, our friends Daniel and Arina told us about a really cool bar at the top of a hotel in downtown Bangkok. So we headed to the State Tower hotel and headed up to the bar. Now this place is serious, the treatment is nothing like we are used to in the states. There were two people greeting us when we got off the elevator and basically had assistants follow us the whole time we were in route to this place. Anyways, we stopped at a bar called Breeze which was on the way to the top of the hotel. It was so high up! It seemed like we were on the 123rd floor when really it was the 52nd. The bar was outside and it was such a beautiful night with clear skies it was just an incredible place. There were candlelit tables all along the edges looking over the city. There was also a really nice bar set up. We had a very good time. It was certainly a place to take your bff, lover, soulmate, or maybe all three if they are the same person!

We then headed to the very top bar known as The Dome . Now this place really did seem like the 123rd floor (actually it was the 63rd). This place also had the red carpet treatment and we really felt like royalty. This bar too was outside and had a dome at the one end of it similar to the CCU atheneum. Next to the dome was a lit staircase that led to the outside bar. This bar was raised up over the glass walls of the hotel so when you were sitting at it it seemed like you were floating above the city. It really was breathtaking and we could really see just how huge the city is. Anyways the bar was pretty packed so we only stayed for a few drinks and handful of pictures.

We all left the hotel and took the final skytram of the night. We headed to an area very close to where Lauren and I are going to move to shortly. There is a really nice pub there where the "local" westerners head to late at night. We had a few more night caps and then headed back to Kantary House. It was a good night and a good ending to our first work week. Lauren has classroom observation all this week and I finish up my orientation and start setting up my classroom. And at the end of the week, we are finally moving in to outr new condo. A busy week!

We can not thank you enough for all of your prayers and good wishes. Thanks for keeping up with us. We miss our family and friendsdd so bad but are really settling in and enjoying life here. Cant wait till you all can come and visit! Until next week.....sawadee khrup, sawadee Kaa.

I think that to get the from creditors you must present a
firm reason. But, one time I've got a small business loan, because I was
willing to buy a bike.
