We got up leisurely today, and walked down to the Hollywood Boulevard at about 10.30 We decided to book a tour of the celebs homes, and got a deal where we could also see a few other attractions as well as a 48 hour pass on a hop on / hop off bus. We will do the bus tomorrow, but had such a lovely two hour tour of the fancy houses. We had a great driver/guide who is an actress, so she made it very amusing. Her laugh was like Fran Drescher, from the Nanny, and we laughed at her more than her joke. We saw some great homes, Dr Phil, Snoop Dog, P Diddy, Paul Newman, Kathy Bates, Madonna, and various others. We took pics, but I think we have forgotten who belonged to which house.
We came back to have lunch ... great with our kitchen we can eat healthily and cheaply. (Ash is busy cooking our supper now while I am busy on the blog).
This evening we were going to go for a bit of shopping, and saw all these security guards getting the Kodak theatre ready (It is the big theatre here, which is home of the Oscar ceremonies). Anyway, it was the GLAD awards, which someone told us was the media awards. We sat there hoping to see someone famous, but thoroughly enjoyed people watching. There were so many gays and lesbians, it was amazing!! Anyway, someone came and sat on our bench, and told us that GLAD stood for Gays and Lesbian Acting something or other. So ... that solved the riddle of the enormous number of gay people!! We were told there would be some super famous people, but they didn't know where they would go into the theatre. That is one thing we have really noticed about the people in the US. They don't seem to know much!! When we ask them things about, for example, where something is, they say they don't know, and then we walk out of the shopping centre, and there it is in front of us!!! They are working in the centre ... so you would think they would know what was on the outside of the centre!!!??? Or the guards working at the awards, surely they would have all been briefed about what was going on ... instead they all said they didn't know, and suggested different places to stand. Anyway, Ash and I got a really good seat, where they had to walk right past us. If we kicked our leg, we could have kicked them!!! We got quite star struck when Sally Field walked past, with "Kevin" her son from Brothers and Sisters. He is the gay son. They were followed by the fellow who is her brother, and played Sloane in Alias. They were the only famous ones we saw, so the others must have gone down in the lift. We heard that Ellen DeGeneres and Janet Jackson were also there, but didn't see them. Sally Field smiled at Ash, so she felt chuffed!! We then went to the wax museum (which ticket was in our deal), and it was awful. Some of the dummies were quite impossible to even recognise, and luckily a few had their names next to them, so we could work out who they were!!! We were pleased we didn't waste good money going. Tomorrow we will go to the Hollywood movie museum, and a few other places. Maybe shop on Rodeo Drive!!! Till then ... bye
