Kota Bharu is said to be the most conservative city in the mainly Muslim Malaysia. When we visited here, it was just in the middle of Ramadan month(Fasting month - Muslims are not allowed to eat or drink between sunrise to sunset). Almost all the restaurants were closed until evening, even restaurants in China town (although a lot of Chinese people are Buddhist). Although we knew the people see us as tourists and would not say anything, we felt a little awkward to eat/drink on the street where people were waiting to hear the evening-prayer signaling the sunset. (around 19:30)
McDonalds and KFC were some of the shops that opened before evening and of course, they were full of hungry westerners (including us) having late lunch at this isolated place. After 6pm, night markets and restaurants opened and people were buying their first meal on the day or ordered and waited in front of the food until the time came to start, to not waste a single minute. =)

During our stay, I(Sayo) took a second batik course at a little art gallery on the right side of the Handicraft-museum which is run by Mr. Zecsman. He suggested to use a silk canvas instead of cotton to paint and he taught me how to do the waxing process in the Malay way of batik painting. The difference I understood was that they draw the lines by melted wax WITHOUT tilting the canvas. It was more difficult than last time, but in the end I was pretty satisfied with my work!
