Where I stayed
Step inn hostel
Palmmers Guest House
For me (Sayo), without a doubt, this was the worst place so far on our trip because of the horrible bedbug experience.
As we always do, we had read reviews of that hostel on hostelworld, hostelbookers and tripadvisor, this place seemed to be clean and a nice place with friendly owners. We booked 3 nights in advance and when we checked in, we paid for our whole stay to the friendly Indian owner.
On the second day I discovered rash-like red swollen marks on my face, back and legs and was wondering what these extremely itchy bites were
I could not sleep anymore with the terrible itchiness. Of course, we did not go back and sleep in our room anymore. We talked to the owner and told him we would like to leave with a refund of the remaining night. Unfortunately he was not so cooperative anymore now and he even tried lying at us to avoid paying back the remaining amount - very unprofessional. In the end we managed to get reimbursed for one night, but we would not recommend the Palmmers Guest House anymore, although the location itself was actually pretty good.
However, we had been continuously bothered for the following 2 weeks by bugs coming out at night - probably hiding in or on our backpacks. Took quite some effort to get rid of them entirely.
Aside from that we had a nice 2 day/1 night trip to Kuala Selangor to see the fireflies along the river. It was pretty nice to see the synchronized flashing of the fireflies after sunset from a small 4 passenger boat which was pushed soundlessly along the river with a long stick.
We also enjoyed the Indian Malay food stalls and the yummy soy milk you can find during the day at the market in chinatown.
The National Museum was also worth a visit, although quite some information overlapped from what we saw in the museums in Melaka.
Coming soon: Perhentian Islands (one of our favorites)
