Well, what can I say, other than the last 2 days have been adventure packed and crazy busy and long.  Where do I begin?

Well, last night we did not get a lot of sleep, so we decided to let the kids sleep through breakfast, but we did get them up in time to check out of the hotel in Kansas City.  Our destination today was to get to Omaha at a decent hour (hopefully before dark today) and maybe check out a couple of things along the way.

We decided that we wanted to see the Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure.  We set out about 11am from the hotel and began working our way up I-29 toward Omaha.  What we did not expect was that I-29 was closed just before the Iowa border, so we had to find an alternate route.  I-29 travels through Missouri and Iowa, and we needed to get to Nebraska, but the river was SO flooded that there was no real alternative to getting across the river in to Nebraska.  Lots of farms that were underwater stood between us and our destination.  The devastation associated with the flood is really incomprehensible until you can actually see it in person.  Not only was a major interstate highway closed, but all of the farms between the interstate and the river (more that 2 miles away) were underwater.  Houses, garages, silos, and farm equipment have all been abandoned and swallowed up by the rising river, it really is devastating to see.  Julia said it best when she said that these people have lost everything!

We managed to find a detour that took us at least 60 miles out of our way, so Stephanie headed to the back of the car to make us some lunch and we moved towards the tree adventure the only way that we could.  We finally arrived at 4pm, 1 hour to spare to see this magnificent place.  We bought our tickets and headed out to the Tree Adventure.  There were a series of trails that took us through the woods with lots of educational material scattered throughout the trails  One very large treehouse (60 ft tall), several bridges, hundreds of smelling stations, and 3 wooden chairs.  We even got 2 White Pine saplings to bring home and plant somewhere.  We managed to finish our tour just before 5pm when they closed, so off to Omaha we go.

We got back on the county road that brought us to Nebraska CIty and we headed due north to Omaha.  This portion of the trip took us a good 60-70 minutes, but before we got to the hotel, we had to stop for some mini-golf.  We found an amusement park that had mini-golf, so the 5 of grabbed a ball and putter and we played a quick 18 holes.  We did not keep score, but we did keep track of the number of holes-in-one that we achieved.  We got 5 of them.

We were off to the hotel now.  We arrived around 7pm.  We could not wait to get in to the pool for some fun and cooling off time.  We ordered some pizza and had dinner poolside and managed to get the kids out around 10pm and into bed around 11:30pm.  Not early, but not 1:30am either.  I am sure that we will sleep in tomorrow again before we head out on our 7 hour drive back to Bloomington to conclude our 3000 mile journey.

We will wrap up our trip and this blog tomorrow, so see you then.
