I spent alot of time when I first moved to Maui at the beach. I spent alot of time at Rusty Pipe in Maalaea, Sugar Beach and Kam 1 in Kihei.

I had gone out a few times to Big Beach down in Makena. The riptide is super strong, and I nearly drowned out there and have not been back since. The nude beach, Little Beach is just over the cliff from Big Beach. I never had the nerve to go over to that side. I'd suggest going to Big Beach, it's beautiful, just be careful of the riptide.

The best spot on Maui to snorkel is out at Ulua Beach in Wailea.

My daughter used to love going to Rice Park in Kula, it has a terrific hill and she spent hours riding cardboard slides down the hill. If you go to Maui, go check it out... the views can't be beat.

One of the best memories I have of my time in the islands was one time we went camping on the beach out in Kahakuloa. I was with some friends whose Mom lived back in a private hawaiian "kapu" (means forbidden) land in the West Maui Mountains. We drove in to visit her, and she sent us out to check on a little old Man that lived deep in the mountains.

It was a gorgeous walk through the lush rainforest. We followed the river for about 30-45 minutes, and then came across a little shack on the other side of the river. We hopped the rocks over to the other enbankment, and out came "Uncle". He was a precious, little japanese man and he was turning 98 years old.

He lived in a tiny little shack, and had quite a few cats & chickens. His gardens were beautiful, and besides his beer and catfood...anything he ate came from his property. My friends' Mom sent us out to remind him that she
was to take him to the doctor on Monday and for him to walk out and meet her in the morning.

He gave my daughter some fresh guava juice to drink on the way back. He was one of the nicest men I had ever met, he touched my heart and I never forgot "Uncle".

I read in the paper a few years later that he had passed away just 2 weeks before his 101st birthday.
