Entry 8 of 11 | show all | print this entry

Two nights before we arrived in India there were terrorist bombings in Varanasi. I had originally planned on going to Varanasi to see the Ganges River but that trip was inevitably cancelled. This was really disappointing and put a damper on my whole time in India. The first day we were there we went around to the markets in a rickshaw, which is basically a three wheeled taxi. It was quite the experience. We managed to squeeze four people in the rickshaw meant for two and went around Chennai. The only thing that sucks about taking rickshaws is the drivers never take you where you want at first. You have to stop at all the shops they get commission at before you get to your destination. This tends to get a little frustrating and we never actually made it where we wanted to the first day. The next morning I left for Delhi for my trip which included a stop at the Taj Mahal. Since the portion of our trip to Varanasi was cancelled we had a lot of free time to do nothing. We had a lot of tours around the city and I got to see Ghandi's cremation site which was really nice. We also checked out the local markets in Delhi. On our third day in Delhi we traveled to Agra and saw the Taj Mahal. It was amazing. I'm glad that I went there because it was definitely worth seeing. My trip to Delhi basically took up my whole time in India and our flight got delayed on the way home so I lost just about the entire last day in port.
Overall India was an alright time. I didn't have the experience I had hoped for and much of that is due to the bombings in Varanasi. I feel like the rest of the trip is going to fly by after this because I only have 2 or 3 days in between every port. Right now I'm in Burma which has been a good time so far and I still have a couple of more days here so I'll update on that later. Sorry for not posting any pictures recently but my computer is broken so I can't post but hopefully I'll get it fixed in Vietnam and be able to post pictures again.
