dWe were faced with a choice first thing this morning. Which hotel do we stay at tonight?

Marie barely slept last night; when she woke, there was a Marie-shaped indent in the bed. Also, trying not to point fingers, the smell in the bathroom is just too much and it hasn't gone away. Bathrooms in South America are a little special themselves as the plumbing systems can’t handle flushing toilet paper. Everywhere we go, there’s a little garbage can (with smell protectant lid) that you neatly fold your toilet paper into. But this smell was extra special.

Olaza’s is a really nice hotel other than our room. The breakfast included the best fresh juice we’ve had, fruit salad, eggs, real bread and your choice of coffee or a selection of tea. We fully enjoy their rooftop patio, having to run back to the room to grab our sunglasses on this already hot day.

The stinky bathroom was outfitted with the best shower in South America. It was a little sad checking out a day early and really hard to do because of the sweetest staff. They asked why we were leaving early and I totally bold faced lied and told them that we were doing a trek.

We headed back to the Churup, which for the same price loses out on the shower and breakfast, but makes up for it with charm and lack of smell.

On check-in, they also solved all our concerns with hiring a reputable trekking company. In their opinion, Huascaran is the one to go with. Out of curiosity we asked about our next choice, Galaxia, and out came the hand giving the international sign for so-so.

Off to Huscuaran we went, where we made our bookings.

Now, today was all about getting ready for tomorrow. We spend the rest of the night preparing for the next day and all the treks we have planned. Let’s hope for good weather.

Hope all is well!
