Biot-Glass Blowing
After a day lounging at the beach we got back to being busy. We began our day by going into the small town of Biot to a glass blowng factory. They are known for their bubbled glass. We were able to watch 3-4 men impressively blow glass into beautiful wine glasses, bottles and plates. It was easy to tell the master from the apprentice when he grabbed the blowing pipe from the less experienced artisan and talked him down in front of all of us and his coworkers. The master is considered one of the worlds best glass artist, (and has the prices to prove it). We bought a nice blue bottle with a stopper and the Biot stamp. This is the one really nice item we’ve bought so far.

Sailing off the coast of Antibes-The day just kept getting better. We hooked up with Nautique Club and went sailing for an hour or so. It was fabulous to be enjoying the water, the weather, and the scenery in this way. Who would have thought that those sailing lessons last summer would have lead to us sailing in the Mediterrannean? (Next time it will be on something bigger then a Hobie 14) It was a beautiful day with an acceptable amount of wind. We sailed around large yachts and sailboats who were anchored in the bay with “beautiful” people sunning themselves on them. Truly an experience to treasure.

Eze-A Village with a view and a cactus garden-After sailing we took the hour long drive to the old village of Eze, right on the edge of Monaco. It is way up on a cliff over looking the sea and coastline. There we walked up more steps to an “Exotic garden” that is filled with Cactus and succulents from all over the world. Did you know that agave is native to this area. The gorgeous view, from above the sea and surrounding towns, was of the ships and sailboats and houses and apt., and all the way out to Corisca. There is an airport nearby and we were even above the airplanes. This is such a picturesque place they even have perfume refinery where Sandy and Annalisa added aroma to their beauty. We were so close we had to drive into Monaco, and see the King if he would have us. But, Alas we were detained in traffic and missed Him.

Dining in Antibes-We went to a restaurant in old town Antibes and had pasta for dinner, because that’s what you’re supposed to have in that part of the world. Sandy thought she was ordering seafood, but instead ended up with veal. It was fine, but not seafood. We have also learned to order “pichet” which is a pitcher of local wine from a keg. Inexpensive and tasty. The people eating next to us brought their dog to dinner, inside. We have seen this quite often at outdoor cafes, but this is the first time one was inside. It was very well behaved, we didn’t even know it was in the room until they got up to leave. It’s a dogs life down here, pampered and restful.

A Dog's Life
Once again thanks for the great blog. The sailing looked great - Dad is anxious for more details. He said to remind you, Steve, of the times on White Bear Lake. You've come a long way from those times. Your dining experiences are always fun to read about. The town of Eze rang a bell with me so I checked our pic. albums - we were there enjoying the view in 1995 so can relate. Lots of love to all.
