Antibes the Beach-Our first day in Antibes and we need a rest so the beach sounded like the place to be. We relaxed on the fine sand, but the water was a bit cool for a full on swim and being the Mediterranean there were no waves. But there was a steady flow of little jellyfish that people would scoop from the sea and throw into the trash, the girls even got in on the jellyfish scooping action. Many tan people of all ages surrounded us and even a few topless women, but they were fairly discreet, ( I couldn’t get any pictures). We also searched for beach glass and found a handful of green, whitish and amber glass that has been smoothed by the ocean and sand (thanks Kit for this idea), we hope to make some jewelry or a mosaic with the glass when we return home (we love free souvenirs).

Shopping for the Basics-Besides taking this time to relax we also decide to focus on cooking at our campsite so we went to the local Super Target/Costco like place called Carrefour. It was crazy busy at nine in the morning and nine at night. There we were able to buy tapenade (to mix with pasta and use as a spread), Nutella (no such thing as peanut butter in this part of the world), packaged crepes (instead of tortilla shells) and packaged hollandaise sauce (yummmmm), milk (that is not refrigerated until opened, due to the tiny refrigerators people have in their small houses), eggs (that you buy individually), select from a huge variety of cheeses, and walls of cheap cheap wine (that is cheaper than any other beverage around and easy to drink, too).

Dining-We had part of a leftover baguette, so we made “Pain Perdu” for breakfast with the thick French milk, fresh fruit, and that great coffee again. And ate on our patio on a beautiful Mediterranean blue-sky day. We packed our usual picnic lunch of local cheese (some of the famous goat cheese from Rocamadour), Sausage, local apples, beer and wine, and gaufrettes aux chocolat, a new taste treat Annalisa and Steve will be working on to perfect back home. For dinner we made savory crepes, crab and asparagus for us and quatre formage for the girls. All topped with the hollandaise in a bag and served with wine from Jean-Michel and Sylvie. They were so rich and filling that dessert crepes had to be put off until breakfast the next day, (bananas and orange and Nutella crepes work for breakfast too). It was a warm, dry, evening and the stars were shining over our Mediterranean camping.

East of Eden
Beach glass great idea, jellyfish, ugh. Although they looked a LOT smaller than what we've seen in Naples. The shopping and dining out at campsite sounded and looked like so much fun. And stars over the Mediterranean - such fantastic memories. Keep 'em coming. Lots of Love, mais oui.
