Where I stayed
Liana`s Hotel Agia Prokopios
We have the usual breakfast and we pack, which doesn`t take londg as most of our clobber was left in the suitcases. Our landlord has a Smart Car to deal with the narrow lane to his room and despite Jean being a Guernsey donkey (Guernsey folk are called donkeys by the residents of sister island Jersey, who are called Jersey crapauds ,pronounced crappos. Jean often sings the refrain "Oh I'd rather be a donkey than a crappo") I have to walk the 7 minutes to the port. At least all the luggage has gone with the car.
We have our tickets for the Artemis which is due to leave at 10-45 and will go to Santorini and Ios before taking us to Naxos. The journey is due to take 5 hours and only costs 6 euros, great. She arrives and off we go on time
Once we get to Santorini it`s a little hazy but the views are still very good. There are several Liners in the bay so I am not envious to be disembarking, I am more interested in the ferries and we are able to see Megajet, Flying Cat 4 and Super Jet.
The largest Liner was Noordam of the Holland American Line. Jean says I enjoyed this trip, as it was an anorak's dream to see all the different ferries!
We sail into Ios where, we normally visit but not this year. We hope Pedros doesn`t see us on the boat!
As we leave we get our first view of Blue Star`s new boat Delos, looks good but, regretfully we won`t be having a ride with her.
Somehow we lose half an hour, and so the 4 pm bus will just be missed. As we disembark the first person we see is the only lady taxi driver on the island, who we have used quite a few times over the years. Seems quite strange, we greet her and it`s even hugs and kisses, in you get, she orders. She is able to blag another couple of girls and we are off to Agia Prokopios.
Antonios Dad is on the beach and greets us with hugs and kisses and then it`s Jean`s turn! He grabs some of our bags and along with Maria the new receptionist we are taken to our room. This is on the ground floor with lovely views of the sea and Paros and will give views of the sunset. The rooms here at Liana`s are really big with large patio`s or balconies. Our room is called Apollo. There is a welcoming bottle of Naxos wine awaiting to be devoured
We decide to go for a stroll and have an ice cream and drink at Golden Beach, where the lady serving there, recalls us.
Antonios makes us welcome as does Liana and during our chat we are told that Nikos has bought Anna`s bar around the corner but upon my enquiry it is not the same cousin Nikos who has a taverna next door! The family are taking over Prokopios.
Unpacking of the suitcases is carried out and we get ready to go out. We decide to go to the Ostria at Agia Anna, about 10 minutes walk away. It is sat with other tavernas on the beach. We had visited there on our last evening last year and had enjoyed it so much that I entered a review on Trip Advisor, which also shows a small picture of me
The waiter comes over and says we will be wanting zucchini balls! I had specifically mentioned these in my review!
All the taverna`s are very quiet and we sneak past Trata which is owned by Ken Stott`s double, but being a good cop he notices and shouts yassas as we go past.
We head for Nikos bar and Nikos the taverna owner shouts welcome to us as we pass. Nikos at the bar, tells us he has made quite a few alterations to the bar and he has made it look more modern. We also speak with Stavros who had run the bar up to about two years ago. I talk Jean out of having a session as we can`t give a bad impression on our first night!
A lovely day and nice to be back on Naxos, where we always made most welcome.
I also did really enjoy our few days on Sikinos. It was good to see a different island and it was a lot better than I had expected.
