Our first day of relaxing and leisurely seeing Florence was upon us. We awoke late in the morning and decided to go walking in hopes of learning the neighborhood. We first stumbled upon Emporio Armani, the outlet type store of the famous designer.

We then went to the 'mercato centrale', the central market, to find some local food with which to stock the apartment. We found shop after shop of butchers, cheese producers, and vegetable farmers. After purchasing an ample amount of pasta, prosciutto, mortadella, mozzarella, tomatoes, bread, olive oil, balsamic vinaigrette, and parmesan cheese we carried the bounty back and began to prepare the apartment for the entertaining to come.

Our apartment building is actually owned by a hotel around the corner. This provides an added benefit unknown to us before we arrived: the hotel cleans our apartment once a week. The astounding element of this service is that we are the only apartment building in our entire program to receive such lavish treatment, new towels and linens, mopping, vacuuming.

The apartment is divided into four rooms. Two bedrooms, a bathroom, the kitchen, and the dining room. The focal point of the dining room seen above, is the hutch filled with various serving dishes. We also have two very nice blue lounge chairs accented by our bar of various regional wines.

With the apartment looking good we left for the entertainment section of Florence across the river. What we found was a place called "Faces". This is no ordinary bar. With a membership, garnered by filling out a card, the cover charge is 15 Euros. It seems steep at first but at "Face" you receive all you can drink from that point on at no extra charge. Seeing as most drinks are anywhere from five to eight Euros at other establishments "Faces" offers a great value. The drinks may be small but they truly are unlimited; and it isn't low quality liquor either. The wonderful bartenders including Neil, originally from Arkansas, will pour Jack Daniel's, Bicardi, and Tanqueray until they run out. You can also receive as many personal bottles of champagne and white wine as you want. All in all, "Faces" has proven to be an excellent value not only in terms of economics, but also in the lessons it teaches in responsibility and self-restraint. But all lessons aside, in the words of those wonderful prophets from Aurora, Illinois "Party on dude!"
