We got to Rome in no time, as we took one of the newly introduced high speed rails (300km/hr)!
We navigated our way to the hotel to drop our packs and check in. After a nice long shower and overview of the map, we set out to try and see as much of this city as we could in 2 days. We decided to divide the map in half, and see everything on the bottom half during day one and everything on the top half during day two.
So day one, to be brief, consisted of the Piazza del la Repubblica, Colosseo, Forum and ruins, Piazza Campidogilo and our favorite view of the city at sunset from the terrace of the Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II.
We could not believe how old everything was in this city
By 7, feet aching, were got back to the hotel getting ready for dinner with Justin, Ann, Felicia (Chase's aunt), and some of her Italian friends.
Dinner was great! It was a mixture of some who spoke just Italian, some who spoke just English, and some who could do a little bit of both. But mostly we relied on Felicia to be the translator.
After dinner, Felicia took us to a nightclub that had all of the same amazing architecture as the rest of this old city.
After the club, we hopped into a cab that would take us back to our hotel. This cab ride was an experience all its own, as there are no lanes and what felt like no speed limit. The cab driver weaves through this narrow labyrinth with such precision that an element of both comfort and fear struck all of us.
Such a great way to end a great first night in Rome.
