In the evening we went with the family to a large picnic where we had a great barbeque dinner and met many of their friends. Sadly, it was also time to say goodbye to some of my cousins.
The evening was spent in quiet conversation with my aunt and uncle and preparing for the trip home. We really enjoyed our visit, we wish we were closer to see each other more often.
After saying our farewells, this morning, we left Nashville, heading northwest
We thought Missouri had a lot of interesting, but rather bizarre signage near the highways. (Example: World Shooting Complex.) Lots of quilting, crafts, and memorabilia shops, plus war history sites and Truman history places. Some of today's "highlights" include stopping in Kentucky at a highway rest stop that was actually an historic mansion, called Whitehaven. Later, in Missouri, we stopped at a rest area that had the "coolest" washing station we've ever seen. There were a couple of insets built into the restroom wall. You put your hands inside and it automatically pumped soap foam onto your hands, then it followed with a water rinse, followed by a stream of hot air. All in the same spot! You never had to move, so there was no water or paper mess in the restroom, it was great! I hope we see more of these in years to come-who knows, maybe even in private homes. More of America's wonders.
Today there were terrible storms and flooding in the south. We passed through a portion of heavy rain on the way here. It looked like another storm would pass through here tonight. Tomorrow, on through Kansas!
