When we left West Virginia, it was a pleasant drive through Kentucky and Tennessee. We saw beautiful horse farms in the bluegrass country as well as tobacco farms, and yes, more corn.
We are now at our relatives in Nashville, Tennessee. We are having a nice time visiting with our aunt and uncle and cousins. We went to see where my cousins and aunt & uncle work at a bank, lumber business, hair salon and shoe stores. There has also been time for rest and home cooked meals before the long drive home. The first few days we stayed at their home except to have the oil changed for the car
Yesterday we ventured out with my uncle to go to the local mall, Opryland Mills. Years ago this was the site of the famous Opryland, a musical themed amusement park. The Old Opry Theatre and the HUGE hotel still remain, but the amusement park part is now a variety of stores and activity places. Strangely, there are no anchor stores like back home, like Macy's or Penney's. They have restaurants, and smaller stores like Old Navy, etc. But they have an awesome food court, an aquarium-with restaurant, a Gibson Guitar store-with restaurant, an oxygen bar, and a Bass Pro shop. This store was gigantic, with taxidermied animals all over. There were guns, fishing gear, camping gear, you name it. We walked about 3 miles in the mall in comfort.
Oh yes, there is a severe drought here. The weather is very hot and humid, but no rain for a long while. The trees and grass are very stressed. We hope they will have rain soon.
In a couple days, we'll head toward home.
