I took the 90 minute bus ride up to New Hampshire to visit Jenny (another cousin) and her family for the day. While their oldest, Megan, is still at school, Jason and Katie were still around, and again, have changed quite a lot since I last saw them 10 years ago! I didn't realise how close I was to them when I was in Montreal- just a 4 hour drive, apparently. However, it was a fair bit warmer than the -20C temperatures we had in January- like Boston, it was over 30C here too! Fortunately, their big New England home has air conditioning :)

A new addition to the family was Sophie, and 8-week-old Golden Labrador who had a penchant for chewing on one's foot. Impossible to get mad at her, of course, it would be like shouting at the Andrex puppy. We had another BBQ, and sat outside on the porch enjoying the evening sun.

The next morning, we drove Jason to school. It's a beautiful drive but 45 minutes! Jenny spends about 3 hours a day driving back and forth (so is very keen for him to get his driver's license now he's 16.) While Jason took an exam, Jenny and I climbed one of the nearby mountains. It was certainly good exercise and I'm glad we did it in the morning- it was already in the mid-20s. The hike was slightly marred by an attack of black flies and mosquitoes but we made it to the top in less than 2 hours and were rewarded with spectacular (if a little hazy) views over New Hampshire. After climbing a fire tower and meeting a marshall on the lookout for forest fires, we began the steep descent, and were back at Jason’s school within the hour to pick him up. Before I knew it, my 24 hours was over, and I was on the bus back down to Boston.
