Went to the 'Red Fort' on weds (various colonial and moghul histories) and had to convince traveling partner that taking a 'coupling photo' in the heat of the midday sun was not a good idea (gives appearance of us both being there without someone nabbing the camera whilst we smile sweetly). Mad dogs and Englishmen... that's all I'm going to say
Old Delhi is insane. It appeared as if the entire population of Delhi (14 million) was packed into this area. The narrow crowded streets looked like various cardboard boxes stacked on top of each other, going up into the sky. Everything was filthy but interspersed with every imaginable colour. Fruit and snacks everywhere. Wires everywhere. Cows everywhere. Big monkeys on wires. Baby monkeys on big monkeys. Just when I thought they couldn't sell anything more in the world I saw a few kitchen sinks and a man with a joke nose and goggly specs with party blowers (the ones like chameleon tongues) sticking out of his ears and mouth...
We went down a narrow alleyway, who knows why! and found ourselves in a spice market. My sensitive sense of smell meant my nose was on fire so I trekked up to the top level and ended up being invited to take tea with a young Indian boy. He said it was his honourable duty as an Indian! How could I refuse?! I've found it very difficult to judge elsewhere in the world but people are genuinely friendly here
The food is unbelievable... but appetite v small due to heat! Hopefully homeostatic system will adjust soon so I can gorge myself.
Anyway, this has been too long so will go now.
Lots of love Sarahx
