Today was a lazy day! We booked our overnight train tickets to Xi'an through the hostel. We leave for Xi'an tomorrow night. In the afternoon we took a stroll from the hostel to Belhai Park. The park is mainly a lake but on the island there is the White Bagoda which we were told was built to commemorate a visit by the Dalai Lama in 1651. It is situated on top of the hill and is surrounded by many small temples and pagodas.....need I say more....these yet again were all under reconstruction for that thing that is happening here in 2008!!! To see the artists at work redoing all the intricate artwork was cool to see. We strolled around the lake and went to see a nine dragon screen which was free to see......the same thing costs extra money to see in the Forbidden City! On the way back to the hostel we took the side streets just to observe the locals again at play and work. On the way earlier I had spotted a woman cooking what looked like a pizza base on the side of the street so I had me one of them on the way back....mmmm it was savoury and just yummy..all for one yuan...12cents! All week we saw small honeycombed shaped clay pots and people would pay for them, drink what was in it and return the pot to the I gotta try one of those also.....yet again the street food did not was natural yoghurt...very tasty.
