Well, i was sick of being in huaraz, but i still had one day to kill before i started the 'Santa Cruz trek', so i took an organized tour up into the mountains to play in the snow. new years is Holiday time for the residents of Lima, so they flood into huaraz, and thats who was on our trip with us. the ride up to the snow went without incident, it took a few hours to twist and turn up into the mountains, and the bus parked right by a statue of some virgin that was built into a snowy cave. we were over 3 hours from the nearest civilization,. but these Peruvians had still found a way to put a damn saint in the middle of nowhere. anyways, we played in the snow and took lots of pics, the snow was obviously a novelty for the limeños, who were rolling around in it and throwing snowballs like five year olds. then we became famous. one of the rowdier Peruvians wanted to have his picture taken with the gringos, and then they all did, so we kept getting surrounded by more and more Peruvians, and the driver was snapping pictures like mad, with us the center of attention, and then one of the Peruvians got the idea that he should have an individual photo with the gringos, and then the rest of the Peruvians wanted to do the same, so we had another photo session, one for each Peruvian, and it was like we were famous and it was fantastic, and we were such a novelty, and then we went back to Huaraz and slept the whole way back.
