Our journey so far UK to San Fran to NZ
Entry 1 of 1 | show all | print this entry |
We left the UK in style flying business class with BA to San Fran. At the airport I nearly ran the sniffer dog over as it was so small and went under my rucksack and I didn't see it (it would only happen to me, we did laugh). As part of our morning ritual we had our makeup done in Maceys, they had the most amazing make up, including makeup in all different flavours including marshamlow, that you could eat, only in America. I did have to point out to Laura that if she eat it she wouldn't have any makup left and it was quite more expensive than actually buying some marshmallows. We went for a ride on a tram (San Fran is so hilly), we could see the sea from most streets when we were at the top of them and the tram was like a rollercoaster in slow motion. We soaked up the sun in union square and we went to Alcatraz, a prison on a little island 'known as the rock' (it is closed now but used to be where all the well known gangsters were locked up in the 1930's) - it was so sad and spooky seeing how they were locked up like that and many people died in there. They had voices of the prisoners playing on audio tour. We also had a look along the pier, eat in Buba Gumps (a resturant themed on the film forest gump) and have also seen the golden gate bridge (its very picturesque) as you can see the coast and the rocky hills in the background. It was quite cool as we had seen the bridge from Alcatraz and now seen Alcatraz from the bridge. We arrived in Auckland NZ very tired as we had been traveling and hadn't slept. We caught up with our e-mails and then took a walk along the harbour where they had an international boat show and then went up the sky walk. We went up as it was getting dark and saw Auckland by day and night which was nice. I got brave and leaned on the glass, on the side and jumping on the glass floor (the only thing seperating me from a 328 meter drop), (practsing getting used to the heights for Sydney harbour bridge). But laura out did me by doing a hanstand on the glass. Our hotel room was as big as my flat, today we finished looking around Auckland and the shops and will shortly be going to meet our coach to do a full tour around the rest of NZ.
