It's my first entry!

I'm not in Denmark yet but I will be in a couple days.  However, here's a few pictures of where I spent my summer.

While I normally go to Oberlin College, I spent this summer working up there for conference services.  It's a tedious job that involves touching people's dirty linens and being nice to people despite them being mostly really stupid.  However we did get free food and free housing in the new campus air conditioned apartments.

We also didn't actually end up working all that much which left lots of free time.  In a town of only 8,000 people and no summer classes in session, this meant either seeing a pretty bad movie at the apollo for $2 or hanging out on our balcony.  Our balcony really wasn't all that great...or probably that structurally sound.   But hey...it worked.

The other great events of the summer revolved around (of course) Harry Potter!  Not only did we make it to the midnight showing of the 5th movie, but we also got to see it a second time at the apollo on $2 night.  Of course their air conditioning was broken and it was 90* in the theater.

We also went to a midnight book release party in Hudson Ohio.  The entire downtown transformed with painted windows and lots of people in costume.   With over 10,000 people, it was mass chaos and we didn't really get in to many shops.  Still the people watching was great.  At 11, when people went to line up for the book (they were charging close to $40!) we decided to drive back up to Oberlin.  There, we found a much more laidback party at the campus bookstore...but it did involve FREE food, fake tattoos, and glow in the dark glasses.  Oh...and we all got the book...

My job ended about a month ago now, but I recently went back up to Oberlin as my friends Tim and Jess just moved into their own off campus house.  And of course, I had to hang out with them before not seeing them for four months.  More importantly, me and Tim had to visit Cedar Point with the intention of riding their 17th coaster, Maverick, which opened this year.

Unfortunately, my first coaster of the day, Gemini, a wooden frame, steel track racing coaster, cause my neck to bend in an odd direction making me not be able to turn it the rest of the day.  Sooo we stayed away from wooden coasters but we did manage to do the big ones including once on magnum (slight bit painful) and top thrill dragster.

We headed back to Maverick only to find out it was closed the rest of the day for mechanical reasons.  Siiigh...I will have to wait for next year.  Having one less coaster to do, Tim and I headed for Millennium Force, ranked the #1 coaster in the world.    We also waited for front seat which is completely worth the extra half an hour wait.  I would have an on-ride photo to show you if Tim hadn't had  made a really stupid face on the ride.

As of now, I am packing and getting ready.  I may also visit the new Akron Art Museum tomorrow to check out the new rather ugly addition as it hasn't been open in years due to construction.  Maybe it will look better from inside?
