The two nights we spend in Wales we stayed at a hostel in Avergavenny.  And we all stayed in a big room together!  It was kind of like a giant sleepover.  Not the best hostel in the world as the beds were really crammed in and I had a very wobbly top bunk.

Avergavenny is right on the edge of the Brecon Beacons which are a mountain/hill area.  Think Appalacian mountains.  It's a really pretty area but there's not all that much going on in town.  However, a pub was attached to our hostel AND Wales was playing France in the 6 nations rugby match.  Rugby is a REALLY big deal here.  It's like American football in that everyone watches the games and drinks beer even if they don't really like the sport.  And in Wales, it's a really really big deal.  They have a huge rugby stadium, bigger than Englands.  And in general, the Welsh are extremely patriotic.

I ended up watching the end of the match AND predicted the score right!  Everyone bet on Wales winning so I decided to be "that person" and go for France.  My scores didn't match up exactly but they were pretty close.

The pub also had free chips and sausages at half time.  Honestly, I just don't get the food here.  People here love it but it's so unexciting.  Basically, you take buttered white bread and stick your sausage in it.  And then there's chips.  Kind of odd but it was free.

I also had my first Brains beer.  Brains is a beer brewed in Wales and served practically everywhere in Wales and nowhere outside of it.  I think it's termed as a "bitter" as it's darker.  But it was really really good.  It was also low alcohol like most bitters at 3.5%.  Naturally, I stole a glass because it says Brains on it.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the tap which read extra cold, extra smooth Brains.  It seemed very zombie-ish.
