A week from now I'll be arriving in London to live for 5 months. I am going on the BUNAC program which is a student work exchange program. In order to get a work permit, you must have been a full time student within the last 6 months. Having graduated in May, I had until December 31st to leave the country. The BUNAC program lets people work in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and now France.  After I arrive, the BUNAC in the UK program is actually being suspended due to new immigration issues in the country. Hopefully it'll be back up in a few months.

As for me, I had to get a Work Visa and an entry clearance visa which was a lot of paperwork and not very cheap.  Luckily, with the failing world economies, the dollar has gotten much stronger!  So I have a lot more money than I thought!

I also worked through The Original London Pub Company. For $600, you send them a resume and they do the job search for you. Add in that all job offers include live in accomodation. It's a bit of money but saves getting to London without a job or a house and having to pay for 1-2 weeks of figuring all that stuff out.

Anyways, a few weeks ago I got my pub placement and it's pretty awesome. I'll be working at the Cittie of Yorke located in the Holborn area close to the Chancery Lane tube stop.  It's a huge pub with a really cool historic interior. The photos I've included in this entry were ones that I found online.  I'll make minimum wage which is 5.52 pounds an hour. Then, I'll have 26 pounds a week deducted for room and board. Housing includes a room right in central London with cable and internet access. Board includes every meal Monday through Saturday. Sunday the pub is closed and I get a day off!  Otherwise I work 40 hours a week which includes split shifts and generally half of Saturday.

The pub is frequented by lawyers, study abroad students and occasional tourists who can actually find it.  I should also mention it's a Samuel Smith's pub and serves only that brand of beer. Most people also claim it has the cheapest pint in central London. All good things...

Anyways, once I'm in London I will  try to update this as much as possible with all my pictures too.

I'd be interested in hearing how you fared over the whole time you were there. I had fun at first, but realised eventually that it was akin to slavery. The whole story is here - http://gstyles.us/my-take-on-the-original-london-pub-company-a-rip-off
