I had to be on the bus at 5am this morning to go to Heathrow airport for my flight to Toronto. After a late night at the Royal National Hotel, saying a fond farewell to our Contiki family. I'd be happy to say farewell to the Contiki cough too but it must like the northern hemisphere.
I was a little bit distracted when the plane was announced as DELAYED!!! Again? How could this be??? Do airports hate me? Of course I was delerious due to lack of sleep! A little bit of magic and we arrived in Toronto on time anyway! Even though the departure was delayed!
I was freaking out because I heard rumours that it was so cold over here that a small exposure to the cold would result in frost-bite... gangrene... amputation!!! I was rugged up so that it was like I wasn't even missing my Australian summer. Upon arrival, it was only -14 degrees (units? I'm not sure!) and I think a bit of exposed skin will survive.
So what's it like? The airport is pretty standard except there is snow everywhere, even under-cover (not inside though). Customs was good. I have that wooden bracelet and it was a-ok to enter the country. It's not as cold as Insbrook (Austria), although the snow wasn't actually falling today. The snow is just everywhere! I brought my suitcase into the hotel and there was a trail of (dirty) snow leading to my room (at least I will remember where to go).
We are 5 hours behind London time which is 1 hour behind Contiki (European) time which is currently (due to day light savings time) 10 hours behind Australian time. So at Toronto's 16:00, it is 21:00 in London, 22:00 in Contiki-land and 06:00 tomorrow in Sydney... I think.
