There are 8 million people in the city and over 4 million bikes. Have fun crossing the road! It seems completely chaotic but somehow it works.
We spent a few days wandering around the city and dodging the bikes. Visited the War Remnants Museum which was a major eye opener for both of us. It was a very graphic display of photos along with the details of the Vietnam War. At one point I wanted to cry and walk out.
We stayed in the backpacker district of the city so there was lots going on
We took a 2 day, 1 night trip to the Mekong Delta. It involved a long boat ride along the Saigon river and then into the Mekong river. Its such a busy river system with many families whole livelyhood based around it. You see people bathing in it, going to the toilet in it, washing dishes in it, drinking from it, fishing from it.... you name it, anything goes. Just keep your mouth shut when the water splashes up from the boat.
It was interesting watching the locals going out in their small row boats to meet the huge cargo ships where they would trade or sell their produce and fish. We visited a floating market where there are tons of different boats tied up to eachother selling their goods.
We left Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon) this morning and took a 200 km bus ride that took about 5 hrs. They have some great bus systems here, you just cant expect to get anywhere in a hurry.
We arrived in Mui Ne which is a small beach/resort town. The beach goes on for miles and miles and is beautiful. We found a great little hotel on the beach and cheap! Hopefully the rain stays away so that we can have some more fun in the sun.
