Wednesday is Immy's "no school day" so I decided to take her into the city to the Melbourne Museum.
it sounded pretty good online and despite the lack of Satnav,I was confident my sense of direction, with the bonus of a streetmap, would get us there.
Now there are strange road rules in the city (due to trams I believe)-you can rarely turn right. You have to do what is called a "hook turn".This is basically a left turn to go round a block to enable you to do a right turn.Very daunting and very confusing as youhave to do the hook turn before you know you need to turn right!!
Getting to the museum was reasonably straightforward and WELL worth the journey.
the exhibitions were fantastic-everything from a huge blue whale skeleton (complete with video of how the got the skeleton from a washed-up whale-not for the squeamish) to dinosaur skeletons, hundreds of stuffed animals and loads of interactive activities. There was a giant squid along with a room full of insects from bed bugs to mozzies-I came out itching. We even got to see a Huntsman (large and hairy) spider being fed a cricket.
We had a fantastic time, just me and Immy having fun.We had lunch there and Immy played on the climbing frame for a while.
Coming home took us rather longer due to the "can't tuen right" rules.I had to keep turning left until I did what was probably a completely illegal U-turn to get us back to where we needed to be.Anyway,it gave is a nice "tour" of the city.
We were driving Julie's Audi TT so Immy was very happy to be in a "sports car".
